Originating in 2017, a group of Columbia friends created SoundBites with one collective goal: to provide the gift of music through the proper equipment, instruction, and funding to all of those in need with a desire.

Our Mission

Music for Youth, "SoundBites" is a venture to help inspire underprivileged children to discover and develop their hidden musical gifts and talents through access to musical instruments AND proper instruction. This musical exposure and opportunity will instill the benefits of proven correlations between music, math, science and the cognitive thinking skills.  These opportunities will not only increase self-esteem and self-confidence but give our youth healthy ways to express themselves.

We realize that our current school systems have many music programs and we have no intention of replacing these but do wish to augment them with instruments and training that may not be available (guitar, piano, fiddle, banjo).  Current programs are beneficial to many children. However, with limited funding and programs, the schools are not able to keep up with the traditional and nontraditional musical instruments and musical styles which interest many of our children.

Our goal is to bridge the gap.

We are not and will not request any State dollars for this endeavor.  We have reached out to the SC Department of Agricultural and the SC Department of a Education to join us as partners.  Both have given us their initial agreement and intended support.

We believe and research shows that music breathes life and desire for betterment into various parts of the brain and soul.  It has the ability to merge right brain creativity and left brain analytical thinking.  Without musical programs such as this, this way of thinking is at risk of never being awakened.

SoundBites is an effort to marry two of South Carolina's top assets to produce capital to support instructors and provide instruments to our undiscovered, underprivileged youth.

We will feed their souls and inspire their minds.

“As a former music teacher, music and the arts hold a special place in my heart. I know firsthand the disparities that still exist in our state that prevent many students from being able to participate in and enjoy music. Sounds Bites is doing incredible work to bridge the gap and provide students and schools in need with instruments to support our shared goal that every child has the resources needed to pursue their passion.”
